We will be re-building our full text search infrastructure which will result in a short period where there will be no full text search results or the results will be limited.
The current image handling for both MastodonAppUK and Universeodon depend on ImageMagic which is being deprecated in a future version of Mastodon with LibVips being the new engine we should be using. We will need to install and configure LibVips and switch Mastodon over to using it as part of this maintenance.
We do not expect there to be any impact to our community during this time and the maintenance will be performed in a way which will minimise any risk for disruption.
We will be performing maintenance to switch our Database server from the legacy server cluster to our new server cluster. As part of this we will need to take the site offline for a short amount of time to facilitate the switch over to our new server infrastructure.
We expect the outage itself to last no more than approx 45 mins and will do what we can to minimise the disruption.
All systems fully operational.
We have performed restarts to fix a configuration error in our database server and restarted the streaming service, content processing is continue to catch up and is 5-10 mins behind live right now. We will continue to monitor for the rest of today.
There is currently a major outage on MastodonAppUK we believe caused by high load following an earlier failure of the content processing which was resolving. Support are investigating.
We can confirm full service has now been restored and we're back to normal operations.
Our queue and content processing service experienced a processing failure around 9AM UK time today (24th Feb). This has resulted in the vast majority of content being unable to be processed and significant delays on processing. We've been made aware of the issue now and are working to restore functionality. It is expected to take a couple of hours before we're fully caught up.
The performance issues appear to have stabilised and everything is running as expected now.
We have restarted our content processing servers which we believe had crashed in such a way that significant strain was being put on our database server causing wider impact to our database hosts. We are seeing some performance issues across both MastodonAppUK and Universeodon however are expecting this to clear up in 5-10 mins and will continue to monitor the situation.
We're investigating issues on MastodonAppUK, it currently appears to be database related but the root cause and resolution are unknown at this time.
